The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary August 15
On this day, a Holy Day of Obligation, we recall Our Lady's being assumed into Heaven and crowned Queen. Note that Mary was
assumed into Heaven -- taken up
by the power of God, like Elias and Enoch -- while Christ
ascended into Heaven under His
own power.
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven is a defined dogma of the Catholic Church. The Feast of the Assumption commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into Heaven - a foretaste of our own bodily resurrection at the end of tie. Because it signifies the Blessed Virgin's passing into eternal life, it is the most important of all Marian feasts and a holy day of obligation.
The Assumption of Mary is celebrated on August 15. Call the parish office for Mass times.
